TBA 1) Biosonar spectrograms

2) Spectrogram Shareware & screenshots

3) Terms to know:
> Acoustic impedance
> Cross-correlation
> Decibels (dB)
> Doppler shift
> Power Spectrum
> Spectrogram
> Ultrasound

1) Take the web tour of this superb Biosonar site put together by the University of Bristol. Shockwave demos help you dissect the spectrograms of various ultrasound communications and see how effective this signal processing tool is in real time.
> How engineers solved the problems of figuring out how bats fed in darkness is described at this Bat Conservation webpage.

2) Download this great shareware at home to analyze .wav files with:
>
Spectrogram 6 demo download (you're limited to 10 minutes per session SO WORK ON ONE .WAV at a time!). If you like it, register it!
> Download at least 4 species-specific .wav sounds to load into
Spectrogram and then analyze them.
> Save the spectrograms with grid overlay's as .jpg's by using the "Save Image" option.
> By left-clicking on any portion (or selected area) of a spectrogram
you can perform an FFT to produce a bar or line frequency plot. Do so and save as a .jpeg
> Embed each spectrogram .jpg in a Word document with a brief commentary on the nature of the sound and the image.
> Email to Mr. R before class
