The sirens have risen. The fire is burning. The people are dying. The zombies are moaning. What will you do? Hopefully, you are in a different place. But then again , maybe not. This page serves as a guide to your possible home. Always keep in mind that if you are in a siege, zombies will not give up. They will stay there until you or them are eradicated (or until they lose your scent, so just staying inside could help). Here is a list of things you will need:

Food, Water, Medical supplies, Entertainment (Books and board games, as electronic games will generate large amounts of noise and waste energy), and sound-proofing things.

Sound-proofing allows you to be loud without attracting zombies. Everyone must have a role, such as the leaders, the suppliers, the hunters, the farmers, the mechanics, and the entertainers (Entertainers preform plays and other things to keep up morale and discourage suicidal thoughts).

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Environments

Different environments will serve different purposes. Here are the types, their advantages, and their disadvantages.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Tundra: My personal favorite. This is a good area to run to or to defend. The borean climate has proven to aid in deep, relaxed sleep, without nightmares of a putrid mob rushing you in the middle of the night. The food is plentiful if you know where to look (Caribou serve as a clothing, fuel, food, and housing, and moss and other lichens can be served as veggies). The cold temperature will ensure that many of the zombies will freeze before they reach you. However, there are a few disadvantages. Frozen zombies are still alive, which means that you can get stuck in a multi-generationa outbreak. The wilderness of Canada will be flooded with refugees, an the tundra of Siberia is right above two of the most populous countries in the world, China and India. Also, you must bring extra supplies when you get there.

Forest: The forest is also a good choice. There are plenty of animals for you to feed upon, and there are good natural barriers and houses. The trees can serve as sniper positions, among other things. The forest also serves as an early warning siren. Utter silence from the animals indicate a chance of zombies. However, this is not easy to farm, as the soil is infertile. Forest fires can leave you vulnerable. You can get lost very easily. Also, many refugees will be here, too.

Desert: One of the hardest places to live in. The days are scorching, the nights are freezing. You will die of dehydration if you do not bring extra water rations. However, the oasis may serve as a home. Giant rocks also make wonderful homes. The temperature will ensure that very little amounts of people will disturb you. Cacti are very nutritious. Also, the heat makes zombies bloat like crazy, eventually making them have a gruesome ending as a spontaneously exploding ballon of flesh. Just wait till July in Texas and you're good. Remember that the head may still remain intact.

Swamp: Easily the hardest place to be. Submerged zombies will drag you to a hellish underwater demise. Disease will be rampant. Predators such as crocodiles will be a constant thorn in your side. Fishing will be difficult. Even though these are extreme disadvantages, there are still some advantages. Few people will be here, and the early warning sirens of the forest apply here, too. You can fashion huts out of trees. Just try to avoid this place if you do not have the correct tools.

The Sea: The sea, the glorious sea. This is a care-free place to live in, as you have all of the food and stuff you need, right? Wrong. You must keep enough supplies to last a few months, enough fuel, and enough vitamin-C supplements. However, there are advantages to the sea. Take an Oil Rig, for example. You have fuel, communications, electronics, food, living areas, and an impenatrable fortress. Don't forget to turn off the rig, although. It may go boom. Zombies are nearly non-existant, as those who walk on the bottom of the sea will be reduced to paste. Bloated and water-logged zombies cannot stand.

Plains: These are neutral in their pros and cons. You can make a good house out of trees, and it is easy to farm. You can easily spot zombies from far away. However, they can do this, too. If there is a lot of tall grass, you can be ambushed by the occasional crawler. Do not discount this location, as civilization grew around farms and such, so maybe civilization will regrow here.

Castles and other Fortifications: Castles would work very well, as these were designed to bew self-sufficient. The walls keep invaders out, and there is enough space inside to farm everything you need. They also built many wells inside these walls. Moats are a good addition, as when you finally escape, half of the zombies will be unable to climb out of the water. Remember to be careful whne you store things, especially explosives (If there is a fire in the armory, use sand/dirt to put it out. Water is the fuse for some explosives). Remember that these can also be prisons as well as safe-havens, as zombies will eventually accumulate into mass numbers outside your walls. If this is a problem, you can make them disperse by staying inside with no lights and making minimal for a month. Maybe just keeping quiet all the time would work better. Figure out a way to make medical supplies, lest cholera run rampant. Normal military forts will be overrun quickly by people attempting to escape. These people will no doubt have several of the infected among them.

Cities: Nightmares. Avoid these urban hellholes if you can. Try to walk around them. There will be many zombies along with bandits and other hostiles. However, abandoned buildings can serve very well as new homes. If you initially start in a city, remember this: The city will be flooded with people trying to escape, so attempting to run immediately will most likely get you killed, especially if you are on a vehicle, as the roads will be packed with people in immobile steel cans, just waiting for the zombies to get in there. Stay and scavenge what you can until most of the escapees are gone. These cities may eventually be restored to their former glory. See the below section.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Urban Locations

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaa

Offices: Office towers can serve as a metropolis of life for survivors. You can destroy the first floor stairwells and shut off the elevators, resulting in complete isolation. Zombies cannot climb, so you do not have to worry about below, just clear out the building. If you can get power restored, you can also get valuable communications. However, they do not stockpile these buildings with food and water. Dropping office supplies may get you some extra kills, or you can use them as excellent makeshifts barricades. You will eventually have to venture out.

Warehouse: A warehouse is a good choice. These usually have reinforced walls, steel doors, etc. You can move the huge containers against entryways to reinforce them with 10+ ton crates. Choose a food, medicine, or other useful type of warehouse. Avoid ones with low windows. If power is restored, you can have a veritable fortress. Just try not to get stuck in an explosives factory, unless you're making a heroic last stand.

Apartments: Apartments can serve very well. Just try to stay on any floor above floor one, and then destroy the stairs. An advantage is that you may live right next to a soldier or a doctor. You will encounter people with multiple skillsets. Not only will you have extra hands, you may search other rooms for food and supplies. Yet again, if power is restored, living will be much easier. Everyone who chooses to stay on floor one will be slaughtered. Your sliding glass doors will withstand three zombies for about an hour. Public housing apartments are built using very strong materials and may be easier to power, yet you are more likely to encounter a gangster who is out to kill rather than a doctor with noble intentions.

Homes: Houses are not too good. They can be very easily overwhelmed by a horde of 30. You will have a limited skill set. However, you will have every tool available for your personal use, and you have to ability to prepare, so you can stockpile more food than you could scrounge for in an office. Also, everything will be right there for you. A multi-level house is a good choice if you can destroy the stairs.

Hospitals: Bye. If you choose a hospital, inform your Next-Of-Kin. You have no chance of surviving. People will be rushed to hospitals to be treated for something that cannot be treated. The entire staff will be overwhelmed within an hour. Zombies will radiate from these slaughterhouses. Only after about a year will these places be salvagable for supplies.

Grocery stores: Not the best choice. The food will go rotten within a few days without power. Go for the canned and dried foods if you want something to salvage. Turning on the power will give you access to vegetables, fruits, and meats. However, the building does not provide good protection, as glass is not very strong.

Note: Take into fact that you require supplies. These will vary from where you stay.
